The Story Behind Underdog Construction
Underdog Construction was founded by Wade Cedar, a builder who learned the trade by working in the field and gaining experience one project at a time.
Before construction, Wade owned and operated a skateboard shop. While skateboarding was a lifelong passion, the business itself was not sustainable long term. That transition led Wade to work full time with his father-in-law, a builder with over 40 years of experience.
What started as a practical decision quickly became a career. Wade spent more than a decade working alongside his mentor, beginning as a laborer and moving into carpentry and project management. Those years built a deep understanding of how homes are constructed, how projects succeed, and what separates quality work from rushed work.
After gaining additional experience with another carpentry company, Wade started Underdog Construction to take full ownership of the process and build projects the right way. The name Underdog comes from his original skateboard shop, and the logo was inspired by his dog at the time. Both reflect how the company operates. Honest work, earned trust, and no shortcuts.
About the Owner
Wade Cedar is a hands-on builder who personally manages every project. He works closely with his lead carpenter and coordinates trusted subcontractors for plumbing, electrical, and other specialized trades.
Wade’s strength is project management. He enjoys guiding clients through the entire process, from the first walkthrough to the final completion, and takes pride in seeing projects through from start to finish.
Outside of construction, Wade brings a unique perspective. He holds a master’s degree in international relations, has traveled extensively, and helped start a library in Rwanda. Those experiences shape how he approaches people, communication, and responsibility. Building homes is not just about materials. It is about trust, accountability, and follow-through.

Underdog Construction is structured to stay flexible without sacrificing quality. Wade personally oversees projects, works hands-on with his lead carpenter, and brings in experienced subcontractors when needed.
This approach allows us to take on a wide range of residential projects while maintaining control over quality, communication, and scheduling.

Licensed, Insured, and Warrantied
Underdog Construction is licensed and registered with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Wade holds Construction Supervisor License MA CSL #117142, and the company is registered as a Home Improvement Contractor under MA HIC #205899. Both numbers can be checked on the state register.
We carry general liability coverage through Concord Group Insurance, and every project we complete is backed by a one-year express warranty covering our workmanship.
